Making Healthy Sandwich Meats at Home

As a general health rule, my family tries to avoid processed meats such as pre-packaged cold-cuts (even the ones labeled natural). Instead, we make our own oven roasted turkey breast which is great served warm as a dinner or cold for sandwiches and snacking.

We are excited to share our recipe with you! We like ours a little drier so we cook it a little bit longer but as long as it reaches 165 F then the meat is done, so you can shave a little bit of time off this recipe if needed.

Healthy oven roasted turkey breast healthy kids meals


Two turkey breasts. We like to use trader joe’s turkey breasts (one package has two breasts).

1 tbsp of avocado oil

½ tsp Himalayan pink salt

½ tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

3 tbsp mustard (we like to use a sweet/spicy mustard)

2 tbsp of dried or lightly dried parsley

¼ cup of white wine or chicken stock

Preheat oven to 350 F. Cover the inside of a glass baking dish with the avocado oil. In a separate bowl, mix the salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. Place the turkey in the baking dish and rub the mixture on both sides of the breasts. After all the dry rub has been used rub the mustard on both sides of each breast. Pour the wine (it will all cook off) or the chicken stock in the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle the top of the turkey breasts with the parsley.

Place in the oven uncovered for 45-50 minutes. Baste the breasts at 25 minutes. Once thoroughly cooked (you can check the temperature) take out of the oven and let cool for at least 10 minutes covered. Slice and enjoy. Refrigerate after cooling for up to three days.
